KUBRICK Exhibition DISCOVERY Command Module by Atomic City, Now in the Kuhn Global Collection

Well….. can you tell I am happy?!! This piece is beautiful… and the other 9.5 feet of it will be coming to the collection in the next three months to recreate the full 11 foot studio model. Thank you Scott!

In 2004, I supplied an 11-foot Discovery model to the Kubrick Archive Exhibition, for what was supposed to be a single show at the Deutches Film Museum in Frankfurt, Germany. During that showing, arrangements were made for the Exhibition to travel to other venues, including Berlin, Paris, Rome, Zurich, Melbourne, Gent, Amsterdam, Krakow, Sao Paolo, and Los Angeles. This model was a part of all the shows over the next 10 years.

When the Exhibition was in Los Angeles in 2012, I evaluated the model, to see how it had stood up to being shipped all over the world and I was surprised to see...

1:650 Enterprise 1701-D Built by Dan Grumeretz for the Kuhn Global / Modeler Magic Collection

Years in the making, the huge Enterprise beastie is finally complete! Artist Dan Grumertez did this piece absolute justice as he brought it to life over the last 6 months. He took painstaking care to make sure everything was where it needed to be… including the individually numbered life boats on the hull (of which are the only decals used on this build)! Everything was paint! He painted layers of paneling to achieve the effect that was on the original 6 foot filming model, utilizing colors provided to me by Rick Sternbach for another build we are doing of which he was involved in creating. Dan used LED technology, providing even light throughout the model. This piece was made for the ages with a metal armature holding up it’s nacelles and heavy head...

TWO Blockade Runners ARRIVE to the Kuhn Global / Modeler Magic Collection

Earlier this week, and a direct drop shipping $800 delivery charge later,  a great treat arrived in the form of a 177 pound, 6 foot long wooden crate…. the two 41 inch Blockade Runner’s that artist Ray Lawson built for me from the amazing Christ Kelley kits! Having little time on my hands as of late, the crate sat untouched until late two nights ago, when I took the time to uncrate the boxes within. Yesterday early evening I managed to cut the two boxes open to view the beasts for the first time in person. The first thing I saw of each model were their massive engine sections that emerged immediately when taking the packing materials away. These things are VERY large...

TWO 41 Inch Blockade Runners built by Ray Lawson II for the Kuhn Global / Modeler Magic Collection

After winning a few close to home Modeling Contests, artist Ray Lawson is now crating these two beautifully built 41 inch Blockade Runners to be sent to Kuhn Global / Modeler Magic for display. Built from the amazing Chris Kelley kits, Ray gave these two beasties life in the best way. They are fully lit and each have the bridge crew viewable inside their bridge modules! Outstanding work. Stay tuned for more from Ray soon! Maybe even two more Blockade Runner builds (possibly THREE)  he may again be taking on! I wish to thank Ray for his continued excellence in this art form.

Kuhn Global Studio Scale USS Defiant NX-74205 by Dan Grumeretz from the Richard Long Patterns – Blue Screen Photos by Kurt Kuhn (Kuhn Global)

When Richard Long began his pattern work on this amazing model years ago, I felt lucky to be on the list whom would get this piece. Today, I know I am lucky to have one as only 3 were made according to Richard, and what you see here is number 1 of those 3 made. After Dana Diana (DANAMAGIC) laid up the fiberglass for this piece, (also casting the resin pieces needed from Richard’s patterns), Richard then a basic build and paint up of it in time to be seen at 2013’s Wonderfest. After it’s successful debut, Richard brought it home and I assigned it to artist Dan Grumeretz to continue work on it, adding the lighting, windows, extra details and painted markings. While some of the markings are decals, some are also painted on...

Studio Scale DEVASTATOR by Marc Elkins for The Kuhn Global / Modeler Magic Collection

May 25,1977 was a day that changed many lives, not to mention industry standards. I remember sitting in the front row of my local theater in Los Angeles to view the stunning opening of the film…. STAR WARS! Crawling over me was the massive Star Destroyer we eventually came to know as the Devastator. Since that time, the Star Destroyer design has been one of legend. The studio model was surprisingly small at just over three feet, not to mention sparsely detailed for as much as we saw of it in the film. It looks HUGE as is the credit to the artists whom made the film. It was unlit aside from the rear engines and belly bay...

RED 4 “John D.” Studio X-Wing by Marc Elkins & Dan Grumeretz for the KuhnGlobal/ModelerMagic Collection

Red 4, along with Red 6, is one of the most elusive paint schemes for the X-Wing. This one was painted as a direct replica of the original filming miniature used in 1977’s Star Wars!  With the final wings placed on by Dan Grumeretz, this fantastic piece was built and painted by artist Marc Elkins! The A New Hope X-Wing squadron is now complete and can be seen in the collection of Kuhn Global / Modeler’s Miniatures and Magic. Photographing these birds with their accurate paint schemes (or as accurate as anyone on the world can get them from the actual studio model photos) was a complete pleasure...

RED 6 “Porkins” Studio X-Wing by Marc Elkins & Dan Grumeretz for the KuhnGlobal/ModelerMagic Collection

Red 6, along with Red 4 are the two elusive X-Wing paint jobs from 1977’s Star Wars – A New Hope. Using photo reference of the original SIX X-wings used in the original Star Wars, artist Marc Elkins painstakingly made this RED 6 replica outstanding. (Of course with the angles we had of this reference, some of this paint scheme was estimated, and is as close ans anyone in the world could be). With only the assist of artist Dan Grumeretz to place the wings on when we received the build, this piece now completes the entire X-Wing squadron for the Kuhn Global/Modeler Magic Collection as they were seen in 1977’s Star Wars! The only differences are the R2 unit in the original model is now the R5 unit that we saw in the full sized prop the actor playing Porkins showed behind him...

1980 MPC Snowspeeder by Marc Elkins for the Kuhn Global / Modeler Magic Collection

Talk about a fantastic job…. that is what Marc did exactly with this ORIGINAL 1980 MPC release of the 1:22 Snowspeeder model from The Empire Strikes Back. I had been saving this model for just this presented occasion… to accompany an AT-AT that is to scale with it! Yes, that is right!… the MSLZ22 MEGA AT-AT (SEEN HERE)! This speeder makes for a perfect diorama display that we are going to have done very soon for all to view! Anyone who knows this kit can tell you how small it really is, yet not too small to be a mini miniature! LOL. Marc never the less placed spectacular detail into this with his paint up of it! Take a look at the back grill! Purposely damaged to be more… “Rebel” like…...

1:24 RED 12 X-Wing by Marc Elkins for the Kuhn Global/Modeler Magic Collection

Once again we try to bring you something a bit unique that may also inspire others. Here are the blue screen photos of the Marc Elkins build of RED 12 (Replicated from the Studio Filming Model SEEN HERE). This beast was built from the 1:24 Poseidon Young offering (View the actual build HERE). Now… the Poseidon parts were made with working wing blocks for the wings to open and shut as they should, but Marc and I decided to keep the wings a bit different from most, keeping them shut. We also left out the ‘orange domed” R2 unit that would have gone with Red 12 for no specific reason. There is a very detailed interior cockpit included of which truly exists behind that dark glass I had Marc add to the piece. (I had seen dark glass added by another artist on a Capt...
