Dave Olszewski – Hasegawa – 1/48 Northrop Grumman F14D Tomcat and 1/48 McDonnell Douglas/Boeing F18C Hornet

This time, I am showing some pictures of 1/48 Navy fighters that I’ve finished. Both are built from Hasegawa kits; but, I used aftermarket decals and cockpit seats for each of them. The F-14D is a low-visibility scheme for VF-2 “Bounty Hunters” when the F-14 Tomcat was still in service. The F/A-18C is of a VFA-97 “Warhawks” aircraft that was painted in a special camouflage scheme. Both aircraft have been weathered to show the typical fading / touch ups that are prominent for Naval aircraft operating in salt air environments.

I created the carrier deck surface from foam-board, painted and weathered to match the deck surface colors with the red / yellow boundary markings. I used photo-etched tie-downs for detail on the carrier deck.

I supplemented the diorama using equipment from a 1/48 Kine...

Lee Ralph – Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back – Bespin Twin Pod, Ralph McQuarrie Concept Model

I started this model a short while back after deciding on a whim to have a go at it. It is my first time vacuum forming my own handmade patterns, and while I’ve still much to learn, the model did work out in a fashion.

The bucks were created by the simple styrene rib and bondo method, while messy, they did work out OK. Bucks were also created to form the main canopy shape, I did slip up a tad here as i had to make an on the fly adjustment that did create a small gap at the rear, but not to be disheartened, I carried on with the build.

The wing spar in 6mm styrene was easy enough to create, and I did my best to choose donor parts that had some rather nice curves for the engine unit, this is actually a very modified intake from the Hasegawa 1/32 F16, a bit late to be a bonafide TESB donor I ...

SNEAK PEAK! Lee Ralph – Star Wars: Return of the Jedi… A-WING Maquette – WIP

This is a sneak peek at my ROTJ A wing studio Maquette replica. A few of these models were built by ILM before or during the fabrication of the much larger filming miniature. This model is comprised of two Tamiya 1/32 F14 hulls, that are cut in half and rejoined. Along with the engines from the Hasegawa 1/32 F16. Various other parts from each of these kits are used to create the form. Obviously due to very limed reference of these crude models, some embellishment is required, but it made it all the more fun, some areas i just chose to go my own way and tidy up somewhat in comparison to the ILM model...

STUKA – 5 Junkers by Warren Zoell

Here are some images of Trumpeter’s 1/32 scale Junkers JU 87 A. Airfix’s 1/24 scale Junkers JU 87 B2. Trumpeter’s 1/32 scale JU 87 R. Hasegawa’s 1/32 scale Junkers JU 87 D, and Trumpeter’s 1/32 scale Junkers JU 87 G2.
Despite its technological obsolescence by early on in the war nothing defines symbolically more the evil that was Nazi Germany than the Stuka. That horrifying scream they made when going into a dive. The ungainly shape of the Stuka caused the screaming noise when in a dive. To create an even louder scream, a siren, powered by a small propeller was place under one of the landing struts ( as seen on the B and D models). It was referred to as the horn of Jerico. Its main purpose was to terrorize.
Apparently the Russians hated this aircraft so much that whenever a Stu...

“UNDEFEATED!” MaK Diorama by Vince Pedulla

New from ModelerV artist Vince Pedulla show us his fantastic build of this MaK diorama… UNDEFEATED! I love it!

comp3

UNDEFEATED!

This project began the minute I set eyes on pictures of the then recently issued Hasegawa Ma. K “Grobberhund” kit. It just looked mean, functional, and I admired the model’s menacing mechanical design. To me, it evoked films like Terminator 2 and War of the Worlds. At the time, I was finishing my Ma.K inspired diorama “War Toad” and knew I wanted to create more of these models. My process is simple; if I see a model that inspires an idea, I let it percolate in my mind. Some of these projects fade away and are discarded, but the ones that stick I typically move forward with, even if it’s months or years later!

The scene that kept forming in my head was t...
