Ian Lawrence 2009 – AMT/Ertl – STAR WARS ProShop X-Wing… RED 5

This piece was originally shown here on Modelers Miniatures & Magic back on February 18, 2009 and is now updated to today’s showing standard!

Artist Ian Lawrence built this amazing AMT/Ertl PRO-SHOP X-Wing, which I believe was the largest plastic injected X-Wing Kit that had been available at the time. I am not certain it is available today.. though I hope so. This old build of Ian’s is RED 5, and it looks fantastic!

Dave Olszewski – Star Trek The Motion Picture – AMT (Round 2) – Vulcan Shuttle/Warp Sled SURAK

I wanted to share pics of an AMT (Round 2) Vulcan Shuttle that I built and finished to represent the craft that brought Spock to the USS Enterprise Refit in Star Trek The Motion Picture.

Thanks,
Dave Olszewski

Dave Olszewski – SMT – STAR WARS – 1:48 Y-WING

Here is my build up of an old SMT 1/48 Y-Wing (from Star Wars). I liked the red markings from the “Red Jammer” studio model, so I painted markings for this as if it were from “Red Squadron”. The “Death Star” base is that from the AMT / ERTL tie fighters kit with a lot of extra “greeblies” from my spare parts stash.

Thanks,
Dave Olszewski

TREKMODELER – AMT/Ertl – Star Trek – U.S.S. Saratoga

Shown originally here on Modelers Miniatures & Magic back on April 8, 2009, this piece still shines today! Built from the AMT/Ertl kit, TREKMODELER.com  artist’s Baker, Joseph and John did an absolute fantastic job on this miniature of the USS Saratoga!

David Olszewski – STAR TREK – AMT/Ertl (Round 2) GALOR-Class Cardassian Cruiser

I would like to share pictures of my build-up of the AMT Galor Class Cardassian Cruiser from Round 2. I studied references of the studio model to match colors used for the main hull and details. For the base color, I two additional colors for primary shading, then, I used the hull plating decals from Round 2 (available separately for this subject) to provide the panel shading that is prominent on this subject. The Round 2 hull plating decals have a translucence to them that allowed the base color and primary shading to also show through. As the Round 2 hull plating decals cover most (but not all) of the areas of the ship, I shaded additional area that were not covered by the hull plating decals. A raw umber wash was used to emphasize and provide depth to details...

MarioMaker – Original AMT/Ertl – 1/350 Klingon Bird of Prey (Built Nearly 30 Years Ago!)

This model was built almost 30 years ago and has been stored in a box.

I’ve always loved the “football player with shoulder pads” design and found this kit someone was selling in the south west. Since nobody was making a plastic injection molded kit of this ship at the time and I found this resin kit, it was a no brainer. The kit itself wasn’t heavily detailed which is fine by me. It gave me a chance to ad more detail plating which is a lot of fun. It’s not a big model so the details added were very tiny, but then, my eyes were a lot better back then so it wasn’t a problem. Now as my eyes fade, my models seem to be much larger to compensate for my blurry vision.

The kit includes a Klingon logo as a base but I had no confidence that it was enough to hold the ship steady so I decided...

Sean Sides – Battlestar Galactica – Studio Scale (~45″) – LIVERY Ship!.. aka Mineral Ship

This piece was originally shown here on Modelers Miniatures & Magic back on February 9, 2009 and now updated to today’s showing standard!

“This is my scratch built recreation of the filming miniature “LIVERY SHIP” (AKA “Mineral Ship”) from the original Battlestar Galactica TV Series. I began this project in August 2008, and probably put about 150 hours into this model. The model is about 45″ long, and I used about 95% of the same model kit parts used on the original miniature. (Did you see the AMT Galileo Shuttlecraft body on the Engine Section?) I had a lot of used kits after the Galactica and Colonial Movers, so I only had to buy several Tamiya ship kits and a few others to get the majority of the right parts.

Thanks to all my friends on Resin Illuminati for your help during this project...

Lawrence J. Geer – WIP – AMT/Ertl – Star Trek: Deep Space 9 – USS Defiant

Here is my USS DEFIANT build progress report:
Yes currently she looks like hell in a hand basket, but it’s working. Internally she is illuminated with sign grade LED’s, 3 rolls of aluminum tape, two rattle cans of black spray for light blocking, two rolls of 1.5 painters tape….
it doesn’t look it currently but a quart of paint thinner, a pint of lacquer thinner, 12 bottles of model master Testors paints, 1 square foot of 1/8” clear acrylic, one yard of translucent vinyl, half a yard of fiberglass screening, prodigious levels of foul language, 2 dozen of X-acto blades, seven different reference materials & crap I no longer can recall. But she’s looking more & more like a ship of the line.
