Jim Lewis – GUNTRUCK Studios – 1971 Armored Vietnam Convoy Escort: Eve of Destruction

This piece was originally shown here on Modelers Miniatures & Magic back on January 24, 2009 and now updated to today’s showing standard!

Eve of Destruction is one of the best-known of the Vietnam era gun trucks – and she is the only one that was returned intact from Vietnam after the war. The others were scrapped or converted back to standard cargo trucks if still serviceable. Eve is on display at the US Army’s Transportation Museum in Fort Eustis, VA.

Eve was built on two 5-ton truck chassis, and is probably the most challenging because you can actually walk up to the truck and touch it. There are no M54 5-ton truck model kits in 1:35 (at least for the last 16 years I’ve been modeling them) scale for you to use in conversion efforts – so you’ve gotta do it yourself...

AFV Club 1:48 F-5N by David Olszewski

This is an F-5N aircraft. My wife really likes the colorful schemes that the F-5 “Aggressor” squadrons use; and, she liked the three tone tan and brown scheme, so I wanted to build this kit for her. (She’s my best friend – and my greatest inspiration). This is the 1/48 scale AFV Club F-5N kit. For the build-up, I use Eduard photo-etched cockpit instruments and seat belt buckles. I was able to create the 3 tone camo scheme free-hand with an airbrush. Each color was shaded for some slight weathering, then a dark wash was used to emphasize the panel lines.

Thank you & God bless,

Dave Olszewski

Dodge WC-62 Squad Personnel Carrier built by Jim Lewis

Yet another masterpiece of our military history has been captured by master modeler Jim Lewis of GunTruck Models!

Here is what Jim had to say…

Here’s a new project in the works. There’s a Holiday Challenge going on on one of the AFV modeling forums I frequent where a member is putting on a friendly event challenging members to build a model during this time – from December 20 to January 4, 2009.

You can do anything you want to it, select any subject – just finish the damn thing!

Well, these are hard to resist, so I jumped in and selected a truck to model. I simply cannot build anything strictly Out of the Box-style. So, that is my challenge. I am afraid if I don’t resist the temptation to tweak something – I won’t make it!

My entry is the outstanding Skybow (now AFV Club) Dodge WC...
