Here is my latest work, a small vignette representing a scene imagined for the movie MOON (Duncan Jones 2009). It is made from my first resin kit (which I will release soon in next weeks Modeler Magic KIT ALERT on 9/7/2020). It has a scale of 1:24, and I have made a series of small modifications regarding of the original kit (turning the wheels of the first 2 axles, modeling of a beard to the figure of Sam, the hydraulic hammer together with its battery, and other extras inside the rear box of the vehicle). I have also added lighting, for which I had to drill some pieces. For the weathering, my choice has been a more realistic finish and less artistic (In the future I will add the step by step).

ROVER 01

I decided to make a series of Rhino tanks as a studio scale. I set the model at 1/16 scale based on models like in the film “Moon”. I had been in contact with the artist that made the scale models for the film and he let me know that 1/16 was the scale for those filming miniatures. The measurements are: 40cm long, 27cm width and 20cm height. The height will vary since there will be several different weapon systems. The entire model was model and set in a vector document for laser cutting. The tracks were modeled by hand and set in a silicon form. The tracks are fully functioning. The tank has a fully functioning suspension system. The weapons and the skulls are 3D printed.

Rover “Duplicate”

I made most of the original ‘A’ for the movie and a lot of ‘B’ and ‘C’ too. Only painted the wheels for all 3 rovers and not the crane or the generator on b and c.
I then made the first two ‘Duplicates’ (in the photos) and now I’m making 6 more. Same materials , same techniques by the same guy. That’s why I’m defining them as duplicates, not replicas. The ONLY difference between these and the ones in the film, is the ones on film have been in front of the camera!
(3 grand….half up front and half on completion….take me about 3 months from a standing start).
