This time, I am showing some pictures of 1/48 Navy fighters that I’ve finished. Both are built from Hasegawa kits; but, I used aftermarket decals and cockpit seats for each of them. The F-14D is a low-visibility scheme for VF-2 “Bounty Hunters” when the F-14 Tomcat was still in service. The F/A-18C is of a VFA-97 “Warhawks” aircraft that was painted in a special camouflage scheme. Both aircraft have been weathered to show the typical fading / touch ups that are prominent for Naval aircraft operating in salt air environments.

I created the carrier deck surface from foam-board, painted and weathered to match the deck surface colors with the red / yellow boundary markings. I used photo-etched tie-downs for detail on the carrier deck.

I supplemented the diorama using equipment from a 1/48 Kine...

What can I state? The title states it all… except how amazing this build is by artist Warren Zoell. It is wonderful to see work once again from him as it has bee some time since the last shown.

After a 8 year hiatus, last showing my Millennium Falcon here back in 2012, I have started model making again, this time a Revell 1/72 scale V22 Osprey.

I made some major modifications which took about 300 manhours over 15 months to complete including a detailed interior, internal and external lighting, motorized propellers and additions and changes to the exterior to more closely resemble the actual production aircraft instead of the prototype.

As a finishing touch I created a “challenge coin” out of sheet plastic to accompany the model display.

The aircraft is a one of a kind model of what I believe was a secret USAF project in the late 1980’s. I am next to Wright Patterson AFB and I purchased this from a the wife of an Air Force engineer who has passed away. It came complete with multiple volumes of flight data and drawings. The internal parasite to orbit vehicle was the size of a 737. Perfect condition.

I have two more rooms with models in them aside from what we are showing here today. The large TU 95, SR -71, and B-2 were built by modelers at Wright-Patterson AFB for early laser research. I purchased them from the spouses of Air Force Engineers who had passed away, and the models were in horrendous shape, requiring untold hours of filling, sanding, painting, and detail work. The wingspans of the B2 and TU 95 are almost 60 inches! Some are die cast, some commissioned, some built by myself, many one of a kind ( the Anaconda APC is all metal commissioned from 5 CGI internet shots. It is 32″ long). The oldest models are 40 years old. There are more to come…
