Paul Dilts – Bandai – STAR WARS – TWO 1/72 T-70 X-Wings RED 2 & RED 3 (With “A New Hope” Paint Schemes)

As John Cleese would say “..and now for something completely different” –

I bought these 2 Bandai (TINY) 1/72 scale T-70 kits real cheap and I had no idea what to do with them since I’m not a fan a the blue color. I decided to go back to “A New Hope” Red Squadron paint scheme, which may be in a different Galaxy far, far, away…

I took the 2 pilots, R2, R4 from my other Bandai kits lying around and used them instead of Poe/BB-8. I made Red 2 and Red 3. Why, you may ask? I don’t know. There is no lighting on these either as I just wanted to keep it simple. I spent waaaaay to much time on my MPC x-wing build.

I am sorry it’s a bit photo heavy! The lighting in my house is awful so I did a few different photo shoots around the house...

Paul Dilts – ROSSI Replicas 3D-Printed Kit – STAR WARS Sketchbook, Joe Johnston Concept Escape Pod

Around six weeks ago I did a kit my good friend Rob Rossi sent me this kit. He designed a Concept “A NEW HOPE” Escape Pod Kit. As it sat on my shelf I decided to get a crack at it. It was 3D printed in PLA, and with a few resin parts I did my own take on it. Since there is no real reference material other than the two black/white concept drawings from Joe Johnston in the Star Wars Sketchbook, I took some personal liberties with it. Rob’s kit was a great starting point, and I added my own greeblies, nurny’s, and do-dads along with custom lighting. I have to say it was a fun build.

Paul Dilts – JPG Productions – STAR WARS – 1/350 Nebulon B… in Progress

I just took some pictures of my Neb B sitting on the shelf. It just needs to be glued up and some pieces reattached that fell/broke off from the LED repair job. More paint and weathering is all that is left. The LED issue is now fixed.
Aloha,
Paul Dilts

Paul Dilts – STAR WARS – MPC X-Wing

I pulled out my really old MPC X-Wing kit to build, and I kind of got carried away with it. What started as a simple out of the box build became a little more. I threw out the cannons and replaced them with brass rods, spruced up the cockpit a bit (as the kit one was pathetic), then I added two mounting points (one on the bottom with a plug and one in the rear with a plug). I cut out the round area in the rear area and glued in a magnet on the back. I then added detail to the interior wings and cut off those two damned nubs, and filling the holes on the wings. I lit up the engines with four red flickering LED’s, with The cockpit and R2 unit using Fiber Optics, and placing styrene bits here and there...

Paul Dilts – STAR WARS Legion Game – 5″ Escape Pod

I did a little small Escape Pod build that was fun and quick. It’s from the Star Wars Legion game which I don’t play but my buddy next door does and he bought one. so I bought one to see what I could do with it! To my surprise it’s filled with detail and not bad for being only 5 inches long (tiny I know), but with a good paint job and some special mods it came out looking pretty cool. I added the triangular heat sink things between the engine bells, and cut out the molded wire/cables that were attached to the engine pan/ bells (they looked awful), then cut some magnet wire, painted and glued them to the bells, and wrapped the over the heat sink thingy. Even though it’s not perfect you can do magic with a little ingenuity and styrene. I hope you enjoy it...

Paul Dilts NEBULON-B with Millennium Falcon WIP Update

My Medical Frigate has been slow at best, only a day on the weekend and that’s if I am lucky! It has been a busy Summer. Many of us artist’s always have a new vision of what can be done to improve our venture! I would say I am about 75% done, with most of my attention going to the 1/350 BanDai Millennium Falcon. I was only going to attach the Falcon to the spine of the Frigate (no lighting), then I had an itch to go above and beyond, and I decided to light it up. I started with lighting the cockpit only, then I decided to FO light the front mandible headlights (red, cool white, or blue) not sure what I will choose yet? Not pictured, I added four slow blinking red caution/landing light to the front bottom hull to give the effect of it being ready for disconnect/departure...

The Works of Paul Dilts

A few weeks ago we were pleased to show artist Paul Dilts 1/350 Nebulon B Medical Frigate work in progress. Today we are able to show more of his work, mostly with BanDai. I especially love the AT-AT and AT-ST display!

Cosmos Models 1/350 (36 Inch) Nebulon B Medical Frigate – Artist Paul Dilts WIP

I always wanted a good size kit of the medical frigate! And since Cosmos Models and JPG Productions started this kit rolling 2 years ago I was on board and paid in full up front for a kit. Very much worth the wait. I have been working on mine for 3 months off and on now. It has a few design flaws and fitment issues that when you start on it you will find them as well. The whole kit fits like a puzzle and only works good if you clean all the parts from flash and extra resin on the locking points that join the pieces together. A lot of dry fit testing will occur and I found the pipe he includes was a little short so I bought another longer one to accommodate my single point ILM style mount...
