WYNN VISCOM / Jared Wynn – The Land Before Time – 3D-Print WIP – Little Foot

Artist Jared Wynn recently shared this work in progress with me of Little Foot… that really cute Dinosaur character from The Land Before Time movie series. I remember this character well as I watched the original movie with my children a few decades ago now. The movie seems to be timeless for all. Jared is capturing the form of this wonderful piece in his creation of it. I look forward to seeing Little Foot completed. Wonderful!

WYNNVISCOM – Jared Wynn – STAR TREK TOS – 1:1 Balok Head NOW COMPLETED for 3D Trekker

Artist Jared Wynn has always shown great creativity, bringing what could only be imagined by many into reality. His digital creation of this Balok replica (as seen on the Original Star Trek series, Season 1, Episode 10 – “The Corbomite Maneuver”) is astounding, and a bit haunting. I remember seeing this episode for the first time all those years ago, and I remember that this Balok head looked creepy. Of course then we were introduced to actor Clint Howard shortly after and were shown that Balok’s initial projection was only a figure bust to entice uneasiness to whomever he contacted. It was great! Seeing this creation of Jared’s really brings back memories for me, and I am thinking that it’s now owner, 3D Trekker is thrilled! I know I would be...

Wynn Viscom – Jaren Wynn – Star Trek: The Motion Picture – Thruster Pack

A couple of years ago I sculpted and modeled the Thrusterpack in Zbrush and Fusion 360. I saw a picture of the original model when it was auctioned off and thought to myself that would be a cool thing to have. Nowadays why have the prop when you can simply make one yourself? I set about to model it and simply placed it in my portfolio as I was trying to find Sculpting and modeling work in the toy industry. Fast forward a few years later, I finally pulled the trigger on a 3D Printer, an Ender 3 Pro. First thing I did was print up parts that I had separated out for another fellow who was interested in the model. Some parts would take 10 minutes to print, large parts would take anywhere from 5, 10 to 70 hours to complete...

WYNNVISCOM – Jared Wynn – STAR TREK TOS – 1:1 Balok Head for 3D Trekker

Here is the Balok head I created and printed up in 1:1 scale. 3D Trekker saw my work here on Modeler Magic, especially the Ceti eel and commissioned me to sculpt a Balok head. I naturally accepted the challenge and went to work. Working in the evenings, 10 hours later the Balok head was done and ready to go. I did some studies, looking at the actual prop head that has survived, though in a dilapidated state, I was able to get the shape of the head, vein patterns, etc. I even did some digital color renderings to get the colors right and to place in my portfolio.

Jared Wynn’s Enterprise NCC-1701-F Concept ArtWork

This fantastic design was done by artist Jared Wynn. Having conceived of, and penned this design many years ago, after Star Trek:TNG, Jared has now expanded his skills to now include digital model making that he may see it how he envisioned it. For today’s professional artists, I see a few of the physical model makers now adding that skill and talent to their resume’. A wise choice in a world that utilizes all forms of art in the Industry. Back to Jared’s amazing design… I find it quite elegant, remaining true to the classic design (even in the notable 1701-B and 1701-C designs… and even a bit of Andrew Probert’s 1701-C feel) yet introducing a new element. I have not yet confirmed how large this Enterprise would be with Jared…...

Hobbytown 1st Place! Jared Wynn’s (29 Inch!) Millennium Falcon HASBRO Conversion

On Oct. 20th the local Hobbytown n Boise, ID held their annual model building contest. The last time I visited the store, a clerk told me about the upcoming contest, and I told him about my Hasbro Millennium Falcon conversion and he really encouraged me to enter the contest. The previous contest, all that entered were either Gundam or military builds. So he seemed eager to see other types of builds. Now for years I had wanted to enter a model into the Western Idaho Fair here in Boise, held in August. I have wanted to do that for years, but the fair came and went over the years. From the models that would be entered and win the prizes, I knew I could do better. I’m sorry but a Seaview painted blue shouldn’t win first place...

Round 2 – EAGLE Transporter – Build by Jaren Wynn (Wynn Viscom)

Here are the Eagle Transporter pics that I took awhile back. It was a straight build from the box with a couple of details I added. The kit was awesome to build, especially the decals, which I think were the best I have ever used from a kit.

Thanks,
Jared Wynn

Jared Wynn’s Star Trek TMP Thruster Pack Model

I wanted to share my latest bit of digital modeling with you.

I always wanted to model the Thrusterpack from Star Trek The Motion Picture. The model made by Apogee at the time of 1979 when they were helping Douglas Trumbull with the Visual Effects work is an amazing piece of modeling, in fact all the miniatures in the film were and are. The Thrusterpack though, from pictures I have seen is in rough shape.

The model itself is a neat little prop, and with the technology we have at our fingertips today, modelers are able to create or replicate almost anything with a good dose of kit bashing! For me I would love to 3D print this model, at the same scale as the original model someday...

Jared Wynn’s Hasbro Millennium Falcon Conversion to TFA Version!

Hasbro releasing this toy was a dream come true, the proportions are spot on, it is almost the same size as the ILM model just shy of a few inches. I got this for Christmas a few years ago and worked on it off and on. The reason this took so long to do was because I started working freelance for a group of Toy Designers and sculpted a doll that is being released by Spinmaster toys this fall. I sculpted the one prototype until I worked on what ended up becoming the production sculpt for 4 variants of the doll. When the work on the doll wrapped up last November I went to work on the Falcon, realizing my dream of having built a studio scale Millennium Falcon. I bought a few items from Shapeways that were 3D printed, the ESB cockpit cone and the Quad-Lasers...

Wrath of Khan Ceti Eel & Star Wars Admiral Akbar by Jared Wynn

It has been a while since we last showed this artist, as he has been extremely busy with his company (Pariah Viscom, LLC). He is doing great things in this art form. And… he is looking for someone that has significant casting experience to work with!

Over the last two months I have been working on a major toy design project and usually I was working in Mudbox but I had to jump over to Zbrush to finish the job and I couldn’t be happier with the software. I have seen other artists do amazing work with it and I know that the sky is the limit with it so to speak. So I have been working on taking old sculpts and improving them in Zbrush and doing new sculpts entirely.

For my portfolio last year I sculpted a bust of Admiral Ackbar from Return of the Jedi in Mudbox...
