Jay Rich’s U.S.S. KELVIN

We had shown this once before (look HERE), but not in such great effects lighting that happens in studio work, giving the models exactly what they need to look as if they came right off the BIG SCREEN and onto your desk! This piece is beautiful by Jay Rich… and with the excellent photography of Andrew Creighton? It shows even better! These Glues Brothers are truly magnificent!

This is mt U.S.S. KELVIN scratch-built model & base. Bottom illumination by LEDs and fiber optics that are built into the display diorama.

Andrew Creighton’s 1.2 Meter “Scratch & Bash” Battlestar Galactica WIP

If you haven’t yet seen Andrew Creighton’s works, you are missing a great artist! To see more from him, just look around for his name here on Modeler Magic, or even go to where he resides… at the Glues Brothers! This is just another fantastic WIP of his that we are pleased to show.

At 1.20 meter in length this model is slightly larger than half-scale when compared to the original Battlestar Galactica (1978) effects model.
Working to get more detail on the model at nearly half the size makes this one a beast of a workload – it will be a while before this one is done. (Gotta build something else every now and then just to stay sane!)

Thomas Weber’s Colonial Freighter Icarus – Composite Art by Andrew Creighton

Artist Andrew Creighton has come through once again with a beautiful composite featuring the build by artist Thomas Weber! The Colonial Freighter Icarus!

This is Thomas ‘Bashman’ Weber’s model that he brought in for a foto session. After shooting the pictures the background was created from scratch in Photoshop and the model shot was inserted. Since the Icarus is such a great blend of classic Galactica elements I tried to go for a look that could be from the old show. Planets & moons that looked a bit like matte paintings from back then, fewer stars that were a bit unfocused, etc. – but didn’t want to overdo the old look. Hopefully, it’s a bit of a trade-off between old and new.

Order of Destruction – Composite Art by Andrew Creighton

Artist Andrew Creighton is back with this fantastic scene utilizing another shown artist’s build from Modeler Magic! Andrew’s work has always been an inspiration to me in my own work. This is fantastic!

Here is what Andrew has to say of this piece…

I have created a new composite using three pictures of Chris Rogerson’s Federation Pursuit Ship model. The background is supplied and used by the kind permission of NASA. All pictures were strongly modified and joined using Photoshop.

Thank you and greetings from Germany!

“Observing IO” Composite Art by Kurt Kuhn & Andrew Creighton

After taking blue screen photographs of the 5.5 foot Atomic City Models Discovery (which now resides in Mr. Robert Fish’s Collection) I immediately got the idea in my head of what I wanted to show as the composite art for it. I found a hi-res photo of Jupiter with it’s moon IO as taken from one of our real NASA spacecraft, and then posed the Discovery model in front of it. About five days later, very talented and professional modeler Andrew Creighton  sent me his submission composite for the Discovery….. almost exactly the same as my own! Therefore… since our minds think alike…. I wanted to show this piece as being from both he and I. It just goes to show how much commonality we all have with regard to these fantastic works of art! I LOVE IT!

So… without further delay…...
