Chris Ford / SciFord – Lasse Henning – Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back – Studio Scale Twin Pod Cloud Car

I wanted to share with you my latest completed kit. It’s the latest release from Lasse Henning of Norway…his studio scale Bespin Twin Pod Cloud Car. The kit’s a beast, in a most fantastic way. And he created it old school style by scratch building the master by hand and then creating and pouring the molds. I just had to get one of these already having purchased his Vader Tie Fighter (seen in my area on your site) some years ago. This Cloud Car kit has been logically designed for easy completion. The parts have virtually no flash and only minor clean up was necessary. Each cockpit has been left open for the builder to do with as they want...

Alfred Wong’s 1/24 DIORAMA: “London Crawling”

Here is an alternate scenario where aliens find their way to present day Earth instead of to be found on a faraway planet in the distant future. Here a disparate cast of survivors find themselves banded together on a London tour bus careening through the streets trying to flee an invested city, barely under control and teetering precariously with the group desperately fending off the surging Xenomorphs. The cast consists of a pair of London police constables, a British soldier, various civilians and a movie-nod AR-15 toting action-heroine.

The figures are modified from a variety of sources including Master Box, Tamiya and various unknown figures out of my spares stash. The Xenomorphs are slightly reworked and reposed Konami Alien toys...

Dave Olszewski – NICE-N Model Designs – Star Trek – Studio Scale – KLINGON Bird of Prey (B’rel Class)

After 5 years of effort (and with several other subjects weaved in along the way), I’ve finally completed my studio scale B’rel Class Bird of Prey build up of the NICE-N-Models kit that I picked up back in 2014 at Wonderfest.

I wanted to include lighting for the BOP, with engine effects and with a photon torpedo effect. So I purchased a couple Madman lighting kits (Klingon cruiser lighting kit with engine effects and photon torpedo effects, as well as a Starship lighting kit for the steady lights and a couple marker lights).

I built the armature (mainly just adding the wing hinge pieces to the wing armature plates – and to the main body armature), then added the detail pieces around the perimeter of the main body armature...

Sean Sides – Battlestar Galactica – Studio Scale (~45″) – LIVERY Ship!.. aka Mineral Ship

This piece was originally shown here on Modelers Miniatures & Magic back on February 9, 2009 and now updated to today’s showing standard!

“This is my scratch built recreation of the filming miniature “LIVERY SHIP” (AKA “Mineral Ship”) from the original Battlestar Galactica TV Series. I began this project in August 2008, and probably put about 150 hours into this model. The model is about 45″ long, and I used about 95% of the same model kit parts used on the original miniature. (Did you see the AMT Galileo Shuttlecraft body on the Engine Section?) I had a lot of used kits after the Galactica and Colonial Movers, so I only had to buy several Tamiya ship kits and a few others to get the majority of the right parts.

Thanks to all my friends on Resin Illuminati for your help during this project...

Wynn Viscom – Jaren Wynn – Star Trek: The Motion Picture – Thruster Pack

A couple of years ago I sculpted and modeled the Thrusterpack in Zbrush and Fusion 360. I saw a picture of the original model when it was auctioned off and thought to myself that would be a cool thing to have. Nowadays why have the prop when you can simply make one yourself? I set about to model it and simply placed it in my portfolio as I was trying to find Sculpting and modeling work in the toy industry. Fast forward a few years later, I finally pulled the trigger on a 3D Printer, an Ender 3 Pro. First thing I did was print up parts that I had separated out for another fellow who was interested in the model. Some parts would take 10 minutes to print, large parts would take anywhere from 5, 10 to 70 hours to complete...

MarioMaker – KORBANTH – Star Wars: A New Hope – ~39″ BLOCKADE RUNNER

After expressing my disappointment with a different Kit Maker’s Blockade Runner kit I had just purchased, my friend suggested I look into the ~39″ Korbanth Kit instead. They made a BR but at a scale that was very large. Looking at their website, the castings look decent enough so I took the plunge. The kit is too large for me, but since the castings were decent, I was OK with the scale.

The kit has clean castings and I was happy with them. One thing that the model needed help on was how it was engineered in its construction, specifically in the engine block which has to connect the tube fuselage in the front of the block and 11 engines in the back. This meant the engine block was going to be heavily stressed having holding on to the front and rear details...

JP Modelworks – FIREFLY – Captain Mal Reynolds Pistol!

Another finished build. This one is a 1:1 Scale resin prop of Captain Mal’s pistol from Firefly. I picked this one up at Wonderfest last year and I finally had to build it. The resin kit wasn’t very accurate so I did my best to make the pistol more true to the TV prop. The biggest ob was to cut off the rear “wood” handle and make a new one out of pine. This was then stained and coated with a clear coat of urethane. The paint was done with Tamiya Acrylics and i found this to be the most enjoyable part of the build. I also made my own custom wood and acrylic stand with art from the show added to the base.

MarioMaker – (HUGE) 1/17 Dynamic Digital Creations – Star Wars T-70 X-Wing

This is a Tony Celliers Dynamic Digital Creations 1/17 T-70 X-Wing kit. My initial reaction reviewing the build doc was that it was going to be a tough build, but once I started the build, it turned out to be the opposite. Fact is, there aren’t really that many parts to the kit and the build is quite fun and not complicated. Kit has resin castings as well as 3D printed parts. The wings and interior wing mechanism is 3D printed. The fuselage section was made from two parts top and two bottoms, and I wanted everything to blend in so filler was used. I didn’t like the nose “cone” detail because it seem too large so I used the disc sander to shave it down closer to the fuselage profile...

Christopher Olson – AMT/Ertl – 1/32 – STAR WARS – Trade Federation Tank (AAT)

This is my build of the AMT/Ertl 1/32 scale Trade Federation Tank (AAT). Pretty much a straight out of the box build. Just did some putty and sanding to hide seems and drilled out the gun barrels. But other than that no real modifications. I painted with a base coat of black primer, then silver, then a coat of Vallejo sand primer as the body color. Some different shades of brown were used for different areas, then some scratching away to reveal the silver paint underneath, and weathering was done with Tamiya pastels. I just wanted to try something different with weathering this time, so no airbrush was used. Only the main body colors were airbrushed.
