1/5000 BELLATOR STAR BATTLECRUISER BUILD
Artist Steve Blanes is building a second miniature of the famed Ansel Hsiao Star Destroyer design… the Bellator! This one will be 57 inches and I believe will be for sale! This shows everyone an example of how much tiny details go into scratch building such things.
I miss Babylon 5, and this build from Steve Blanes makes me miss it even more. Nicely done!
Lots of work done on the Thunderbolt. Airbrushed, drybrushed with Tamiya paints. Special Blend of Titanium Silver and Royal Grey
A resin model I built for my best friend and Sensei Martin Balog. This model has several layers of color to give it a deeper look. Sprayed with 3 layers dullcoat and 3 layers gloss at the end for protection.

I had this kit for 15 years. I really took my time with it, adding detail to the engine compartment for absolute realism. The pain is a custom mix. The decals were a bit old and slightly yellowed but I am still happy with the result.

Artist Steve Blanes returns with this great diorama!
Read MoreI call this Diorama “The end of the road”
The Tomahawk and VF-1 are 1/144 scale, I used 1/160 Scale men. I’m happy with the result still. I had a left over Super VF-1S that was damaged a few years back. With pieces missing and parts snapped I had a Idea for a Diorama. A Vf-1 Super Forced to enter the atmosphere. The pilot chose to risk not ejecting the SUPER pack as war parts were few and far between. He happened upon an old highway where a Tomahawk and a Phalanx were getting supplied. The Tomahawk and Vf-1 have met up here, both suffering battle damage and overuse. Still…the battle rages on somewhere…

Designed by artist Ansel Hsiao, this piece was scratch built to reality by artist Steve Blanes! It is HUGE!! And highly detailed!
Read MoreThe ASSERTOR and BELLATOR was designed by ANSEL HSIAO. When I first seen these ships I was utterly taken away.
The ASSERTOR was hand carved from Styrene sheets. The turbo Lasers were printed using a 3dTouch Printer.
It is estimated to have 2500+ hours of work since July of 2012. The paint was layered using Tamiya Paints and a Aztec Airbrush.
I do not know how many individual pieces make up the ASSERTOR. Possible 10’s of thousands. 95% of it was carved with an exacto knife and a dremel. The Wash did not work out well and you will see some spots where it is to heavy...
The White Tiger LIVES! And so does his amazing project that he has breathed life into! The mega Star Destroyer ASSERTOR as designed by Ansel Hsiao is one of the most beautiful SSD designs of all time in my opinion. Steve is really doing a great job with the fine detail needed to make her appear tremendously huge!
Steve Blanes came into this art form full blast when he began utilizing digital artist Ansel Hsiao’s fantastic Star Destroyer designs and turning them into amazing physical models! Her is his newest venture… the ASSERTOR!!
Here is an update today on my Super Star Destroyer based on Ansel Hsiaos design. The progress is only at 30%. It may take another 6 months to finish. Once again 95% of this has been hand carved. The turbo Lasers have been printed by a 3dTouch printer.

After months creating his first scratch build, highly detailed and based of off Ansel Hsiao’s design, this piece has finally come to life! Nicely done!
Here is what Steve has to say…
“About 6 months ago I encountered Ansel Hsiao’s BELLATOR CLASS STAR BATTLECRUISER.
I was enthralled. I knew I had to build it, even though I had never scratch built anything ever before and that I also have Chronic Pain and Fatigue syndrome. It did not matter. it took 6 seeks to get enough money together and plan out a strategy. Pretty much my plan was to I carve styrene until I got my Bellator.
I believe it has 4500-5000 individual pieces.
After 4 months and 500 or so hours I finished my Star destroyer model! I thought this was something impossible for me to do. I taught myself and did it 99% scratch made...
