David Greaves – “Long Day in the Saddle”

During this LOCKDOWN we are in, I have been stuck in England,.. and I live in China, so it’s been a real challenge in painting anything since I don’t have an airbrush here,.. so I have had to use rattle cans, primer, base coat and matte varnish. All the other painting has been done with brushes and sponges, getting the effects that I wanted did take some experimentation but I’m pretty happy with the results.

The bike and sidecar is the Italeri 1/9th scale BMW, the figure is from an English company Reedees Miniatures. The BMW is not a great kit, there’s a huge amount of cleaning up to do and gaps that need careful filling but once done it’s good, with plenty of detail.
The figure on the other hand is superb, it’s not easy to find anything in 1/9th scale but this guy makes a small but excell...

David Greaves DIORAMA – Frankenstein’s Monster – First Steps to Freedom!

I’ve got something very different (for me) to show today. The monster is a vinyl kit that I’ve done a little work to, mainly I’ve adjusted his posture to fit my needs, the rest of it is my construction. It’s almost all (apart from the wooden door in the background) made from polyurethane foam board which I’ve carved into, plastered over, textured and painted. As the figure itself is quite tall, the whole thing stands at just over half a meter and weighs a good amount too. It’s been fun to do and a change from working with plastic. I may do another vinyl kit one day. I have a Terminator that I’ve had for over 25 years, maybe it’s time it saw the light of day.

All the best..

David Greaves – “Unwelcome Visitors”

This latest diorama has been on the go for a few months, but it’s finished now. YES, this one is not from the Star Wars Universe. It is however partly made from a Bandai product, I like their kits very much. The crab tank wasn’t really meant to look like it does now, but I wasn’t completely in love with the original design. It was also meant to be in 1:100th scale, but I had these nice figures in 1:35th scale that I wanted to use and the resin buildings were in 35th scale as well, so I beat it into shape on my work bench until I was happy.

Best wishes.

1/12 “The Scavenger” by David Greaves

Here is my last finished project. This one is called ‘The Scavenger’. It started life as Bandai’s 1/12th scale General Grevious, but I couldn’t leave it alone and simply build it straight from the box.
For me, it was a pretty quick build. I had the idea for it and it just fell into place as it went along.

Best wishes to you.

David Greaves – “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly: Jedha Rebels”

The piece is called “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly – Jedha Rebels. It’s inspired by the Star Wars movie Rogue One, perhaps you can see that in some of the architecture. The figures are 1/12th scale from BanDai, just as I usually utilize, and I’ve mixed and matched body parts to create the trio of rebel fighters. I wanted it to look like they’ve been using equipment that they have ‘liberated’ from Imperial troopers.

To change things a little I’m presenting the photos as a series of wanted posters to stay in keeping with the Sergio Leone, Western feel.

Best wishes and kind regards

“Put Him Down!” .. a ROGUE ONE Diorama by David Greaves

I’ve just finished my latest project. The piece is called “Put him down”. Both figures are from Bandai. K2SO is straight out of the box, (just a paint job). The Shore Trooper has had his legs and arms re-sculpted just to hide the joints and make the folds in the trousers look more in keeping with the leg position. The base and all of the other little details I’ve scratch built from styrene, adding a few kit parts.

Best wishes,
David Greaves

David Greaves JEDHA REBELS Diorama (WIP 2) Update!

I’ve been busy painting the scenery for my diorama- Jedha Rebels. The three main protagonists in this little story are yet to arrive, they, like all actors, are taking their time getting ready, but be assured once they are done I will get the final shots taken and send them in to show here on Modeler Magic.

Best wishes

David Greaves – The Good, The Bad and The Ugly – Jedha Rebels (WIP UPDATE!)

I thought I would share the latest output from my workshop with you. This guy is just in the background, he won’t be see much in the finished diorama but I wanted him there to draw the eye into the scene. There’s still a long way to go before I finish everything.

Hope you like what you see.

David Greaves Builds the “Bastard” Speeder Bike – WIP

I thought I would tease you with some photos of my latest project. It’s no-where near finished but I thought you might like to see my progress. It’s the bastard offspring of a speeder bike when a rebel mechanic got his hands on it, added some big guns and a pair of heavy duty motors. It won’t be seen on this stand as it’s part of a diorama I’m calling ‘The Good, the Bad and the Ugly – Jedha Rebels‘. There will be the bike and a trio of rough looking war veterans posing in the street for a group photo.

Thanks once again.

David Greaves “Don’t Shoot!” Diorama

‘Don’t Shoot’ The title just about says it all. Everything is pretty much straight out of the box, apart from the base they are standing on, which is fabricated from ABS sheet and the rest is just the paint job really.
