Peter Jackson’s THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY

Coming to Theaters December 14

KG_MMM_THE_HOBBIT

From Academy Award-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson comes “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” the first of two films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece “The Hobbit,” by J.R.R. Tolkien. The second film will be “The Hobbit: There and Back Again.”

Both films are set in Middle-earth 60 years before “The Lord of the Rings,” which Jackson and his filmmaking team brought to the big screen in the blockbuster trilogy that culminated with the Oscar®-winning “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.”

The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug...

The Digital & Conceptual Artwork by Sylvain Beignet

Conceptual Art is a HUGE part of the Film industry. Most of us know the names Ralph McQuarrie, Joe Johnston, and even H R Giger, but many do not realize what their impact on the finished items we view had. These artists are the basis for most of the creativeness in the film…. and eventually what inspires others from the finished piece viewed. This is the work of fantastic digital artist and illustrator… Sylvain Beignet. As you can view from the photos below, this artist has great creative skills! Not only that, but fantastic PROP skills as well as you can see with Sylvain’s re-paint of the WETA created ARC Generator from the hit film DISTRICT 9! Beautiful work…. and a valued member of the Studio Scale Federation Team.

1:72 LOTR Minas Tirith Studio Filming Miniature from WETA

Photos obtained online from various sources that had taken photos of it during it’s tours…. the smaller filming miniature of this Lord of the Rings – Return of the King fortress is magnificent! Even in it’s 1:72 scale it is huge! Built by the hands of the very talented modelers at New Zealand’s outstanding WETA shop, this model is very unique and will always impress. There is a possibility that when the Gallery opens… that a replica of this piece may exist for viewing.

Here are some impressive detail shots of it on tour by yet to be determined online sources….

AVATAR’s CG War Vehicles

I was so impressed with AVATAR’s story, and CG effects! Director James Cameron completely had NEW technology developed (that he paid for out of his own pocket) in order to bring this amazing movie to life! And LIFE it certainly displayed in all it’s CG beauty! The fantastic Navi people were extremely well done, and even more specific to this Gallery’s interests were the CG War Vehicles used. Some of these were based on actual new technology for flight! The opposite spinning rotors sitting on top of one another within their also rotatable circled cages is especially notable since that is the latest, and fastest technology for Helo flight today...

AVATAR – The 3D Revolution by Pop Sci Magazine Journalist John Scott Lewinski

Inside the Scene-Stealing 3-D Technology Behind

James Cameron’s

AVATAR

Avatar

James Cameron is stubborn. He decided nearly a decade ago to film his humans-versus-aliens sci-fi adventure Avatar in 3-D, but he refused to start production until technology could convince the viewer that he or she could step through the screen and pick up a bow alongside the Na’vi, the film’s 10-foot-tall, blue, cat-faced alien protagonists.

To give scenes realistic depth, Cameron, who brought a computer-generated liquid-metal T-1000 to life in Terminator 2, and camera whizzes Vince Pace and Patrick Campbell built the Pace/Cameron Fusion Camera System to capture images the same way as a human eye does...
