Artist Jared Wynn has done it again with this magnificent WIP of his Concept Shuttle! Talk about SLEEK! From the kits he used to bash this together…. we know it is supposed to be fast! Beautiful work! Appropriately named too!
I would be remiss if I didn’t recognize the ELO Record this beauty sits upon. Classic! I love it!
This is a kitbash of an SR-71 and a F-14 tomcat with new wings made from layered sheet styrene. It was one of those nights where I was trying to sleep, and my mind wouldn’t stop. I in preparation to spread flyers throughout the area where I live for model building services. I love to build models as a hobby, and I have been fortunate enough to have some of my work displayed on modelermagic.com. One of the main criteria is that the models are of a high professional standard and also that they be of either a museum or studio quality. The idea of a kit-bashed shuttle, came to me when I was tossing and turning, the image of the front of the craft just appeared to me. Like a bag of hammers, it hit me, take a SR-71 Blackbird and the engines from a F-14 Tomcat, and slap it on top. Originally I thought of having the intakes be on top and bottom, but then I thought it would be best to remove the intakes on the bottom and keep the bottom smooth just like the original shuttle to help with re-entry. I just grabbed a pen and started sketching it out. I was bored, I was at the in-laws, and I had to get this on paper because I didn’t want to lose the image and forget all about it. I figured that it would be best to create an original design to throw into the model portfolio to show to clients than something generic.
