WOW! What a fantastic imagination Clifton has with this creation of a Battlestar reminiscent of three types of designs! The most obvious being the original Battlestar from the 1978 Film, then the amazing new landing and launch bay pods that have hints from the original film, the new Ron Moore Battlestar design (from Eric Chu) and then the use of the under bay guns from Brian Larson’s Re-imagined Battlestar (SEEN HERE). I LOVE THIS! As a matter of fact, I have an email into Clifton right now about this fantastic piece. One of the key element of the story of “13” we are producing is the first Colonial encounter with the Cylons (which we refer to as Cetans at first). In our story it is the Columbia that is involved…. and she isn’t even finished when the encounter happens. She will have an entire open landing bay that is still unfinished at the time. I state this to you all because what Clifton has done with this build very much is what we were looking for in an early Battlestar design (as being the Colonies first launched). Of course there would be changes to suit the time period better, but what a fantastic design by artist Clifton Simmons!!! Just look at the beautiful lines… and the very functional gun emplacements! Creativity is what this art form is all about! This design also shows us that an artist does not have to be part for part accurate to the original studio model to have an amazing Battlestar display! Outstanding!

Here is what Clifton has to tell of this piece…

She’s a hybrid between the old and new series and is 3 feet long, scratch built.  The decals are custom by JBOT, who did a great job, I think.  Note the main gun mounts, the AA mounts, the upper deck missle launchers and the side launch bays?
