SRS Prototyping – from Scott Spicer… the Super Star Destroyer VENGEANCE

This SSD commission piece took almost two years to complete. The model is two feet in length and completely built from scratch. The model is mounted from the side instead of the typical ‘up the center’ way. The base is also custom made with the operating switches on the back side. Two Madman ‘Big Ass’ starship lighting kits were used to light the model, including hundreds of fiber optic strands. The hull was created using .062 styrene sheet stock & styrene tubing for the engines. The city scapes are all hand cut styrene strips, hand layered and assembled to allow for the fiber optic strands, with the addition of small kit parts sprinkled throughout.
Various sections of the model can be removed to access the boards, LED’s and fiber optics if the model needs servicing. The model can also be removed from back plate of the base.
The model is finished in a medium grey with hand drawn panel lines with weathering on the engines.

The story of SSD ‘Vengeance’

After the loss of the Executor, the SSD went through a re-design. This next SSD has less mass, enabling it to attain light speed more quickly, using less fuel and computing power. The name of Vengeance was chosen even before the keel was laid. There were increases in the quantity of deflector domes and defensive/offensive turrets. There is also a large hangar bay towards the bow to receive & deploy troops and support ships. The Vengeance is also known as ‘the ship of gold’ due to the large solar energy collection panels made of pure gold.
