Laurent Perini’s ROTJ and Rogue One Dornean Gunship

The little hammerhead model has returned in Rogue One! What is interesting about this model is that it was built and seen briefly in Return of the Jedi. Built by the artist Bill George. Today, we are able to show this beautiful replica built by artist Laurent Perini! What a beautiful job! When Laurent contacted me about this, I immediately contacted Bill to show him what Laurent had done, and he responded with a memory I thought both Laurent, and everyone would enjoy… this is what he stated…

This certainly is a blast from the past! I have to say that until I started seeing the recent chat about this ship on-line, I had completely forgotten about it. I do remember that at a certain point I was asked to create a background rebel ship for the space battle at the end of Revenge (Return) of the Jedi. I recall that I wasn’t given much time and probably spent a couple of days on it. Obviously it’s mostly kit bashed and I remember the main body being made of a very thin vacuformed fuselage of something that was on our kit wall. It was too thin to use so I filled it with urethane to strengthen it. That made the small model VERY heavy. When I presented it to Joe Johnston he stated that it looked like “Something from Galactica”. (That wasn’t a compliment by the way.) Honestly I didn’t even know that it was used in the film up until recently. Thanks for sharing this image of the beautiful replica model and for jarring some dusty old memories.

So I say again to Laurent… fantastic work!
