Tom DeSanto’s 1:24 “DeSanto” Galactica Continuation Mk IV Colonial Viper by David Martis – Blue Screen Photos by Kurt Kuhn (Kuhn Global)

Shown here back in 2008, then again in Sept. 2010 after I gave this to Tom DeSanto….. this is a Piece of Galactica History. It is, in fact, the Tom DeSanto / Bryan Singer Continuation Series Colonial Viper that never came to be. This one is officially scaled in 1/24 and named the Mk IV Advanced Colonial Viper.

This piece was built by artist David Martis, which came out very well considering the challenges of the cast parts produced. The story is below…

How this Model Came to Exist…

While in the planning stages, Producer Tom DeSanto had originally contacted Michael Miles Artistry to develop his (DeSanto’s) newly designed “advanced” Viper for the Continuation Series calling it the Mk IV...

FINISHED! Colonial Presidential Shuttle from ATLANTIA “ATL-104” by Marc Elkins

Finished with this build for Modeler Magic…. Marc has again outdone himself! This piece is extremely unique in that it is the only one we know of that has been labeled with markings as being one of President Adar’s Shuttles from the Battlestar Atlantia! The unique marks and panels really show the difference between the two shuttles seen in the photos… the other being the Galactica Shuttle GAL-356… which is in Marc’s own collection of masterpieces. As soon as I am able…. I will take Blue Screen photos for everyone to enjoy and utilize.

Galactica “Forced Perspective” Landing Bay Diorama by Christopher Callaghan

I love when artists do unique builds… and this is one of those. The term “Forced Perspective” is a term well used in the film industry as most of what we’ve viewed in past movie’s special effects. It deals with scenes that are seen close, but look as if what you see get’s further away from you. This is done with a variety of film trickery. This diorama by Chris Callaghan is fantastic in that same way…. showing us how deep the landing bay entrance is, while truly only being a few inches from the camera, and model displayed in the foreground. Chris even placed a smaller Viper in the stall next to the foreground Viper for better depth perception. Not to mention the shadow of the Viper and Crew member on the deck flooring! Nicely done!

Full Sized Prop – Viper Mk VII from Jared Bronson (SpaceMind Modeler)

After receiving an email from Frank Winspur of MOEBIUS MODELS asking if I had access to reference of the MK VII Landing Gear, I immediately called a few people that always come through. Frank Cerney, Morton Moeslund and Jared Bronson. Frank and Moe had the CG model renders (designed by Eric Chu) for the gear, while Jared Bronson (of SpaceMind Modeler) came through with these photos of the full sized prop used for the movies and series Battlestar Galactica. The photos were taken at the auction. All the reference material then went to industry famed master artist Gary Kerr to blueprint for the kit...

“Hot Dog Piloting” – Composite Art by Kurt Kuhn (Kuhn Global)

Being that the best experienced Colonial Pilots are spread thin these days, Captain Apollo rarely gets to share the skies with his best friend… Lt. Starbuck. Such was one of these days. A colony-type planet had been detected a few light years in front of the fleet and needed to have some recon done…. their names were first on the flight roster. Detecting no hostile presence, the two friends shoot for the deck of the planet to discover most of it covered with water. Alone, with beautiful skies above, deep blue oceans below…. and a whole world of freedom waiting to hear the screaming of Viper engines for the first time….. Apollo looks over at Starbuck… who just nods, and waves his hand as if to say “after you” while placing his cigar back in his mouth…...
