Studio Scale

Klingon Bird of Prey

DSC_1187

This amazing build of the Klingon Bird of Prey is a replica of Commander Krug’s vessel as seen in Star Trek III – The Search for Spock. Every detail of this model has been painstakingly replicated from the exact kit parts used in creating the original. Aluminum armature included, with your name inscribed in Klingon text upon it, this piece is built to last the ages. This piece will be made only a few times before it’s retirement, so do not miss out. Number 1, the BOP in these photos, went to world collector Clay Brown, while the second is currently being built for the Kuhn Global/Modeler Magic Collection.

Building the Studio Scale Klingon Bird of Prey by NICE-N Model Designs

Artist Steve Neisen of NICE-N Model Designs has forwarded this art form more times than many realize! He brought us many of the studio scale kits we enjoy today, and continues to do so with his next offering…. the studio scale Klingon Bird of Prey! That is right… Commander Krug’s vessel as seen in Star Trek III – The Search for Spock, and Star Trek IV – The Voyage Home! The beauty you see being built here is going into the Clay Brown Collection and orders for these can now be taken! Realize the cost of such a kit, however, is quite astonishing until one actually looks ate what it takes to create and build it! So don’t be shocked with an inquiry! I can say this is TOP NOTCH model making, and Steve is doing a great job! Enjoy the photos!

STAR TREK TMP Studio Scale K’Tinga by Richard Long for the Clay Brown Collection

Richard Long is an artist that amazes me with his talents. Seen here is his fully scratch built studio scale Klingon K’Tinga Cruiser that is an exact replica of the model used in Star Trek The Motion Picture! This is the first ever replica made in the world as this model has eluded some of the best model makers over time due to it’s many part’s having to be identified from the many kits bashed in it’s creation. With assistance from some of those famed modelers, Richard was able to bring it all together as it should be. Collector Dr. Clay Brown must be completely ecstatic with this piece. I must admit to being a bit jealous. The studio K’Tinga is one of my personal ‘grail’ items to have displayed in the collection here. Congratulations to Richard and Clay!

Studio Scale T-47 Snowspeeder by Richard Long for the Clay Brown Collection

Built for the Clay Brown Collection from the kit originally mastered by Nick Sainton-Clark (then turned over to Nice-N Model designs and cast by MSLZ22 Models), artist Richard Long made this piece fantastic and very original! Most replicas are just that… replicated mark for mark like the studio models used in filming. Richard was granted artist license by Clay to make this beast a random Rebel T-47…. making it unique…. and of more value in my humble opinion.  Keep in mind that these studio sized pieces are very large at 18 inches by 18 inches! Beautifully done!

Of note… Richard Long is currently working on two original castings for Modeler Magic from the original molds that Nick made… as they were some of the first castings ever of this kit...

Built from the fantastic MSLZ22 Patterns, Richard Long is doing 3 or 4 of these beautiful, giant AT-AT’s for a 30 foot HOTH display! The snow and weathering added on this piece really makes it pop! What can I say about this other than WOW!! Plus…. I am jealous!!!! What a beautiful job by all involved in it’s creation!

T-Rex Head by Richard Long

Made for the Clay Brown Collection…. Richard Long used artistic license in creating the paint pattern of this predator beast of old. It was so unique, and realistic looking that the local Museum of Natural History hired Richard to paint one of their Dinosaur displays! This piece is beautiful!

McQuarrie Concept A-Wings – Composite Artwork by William Pace

Using Richard Long’s photos of the amazing scratch builds he made for a few collectors of the McQuarrie designed A-Wing from Star Wars (SEEN HERE) , professional artist William Pace shows us his amazing skills with Composite Artwork! I love this!

My apologies to artist William Pace. I originally posted that Richard Long made this composite, when in fact it was Williams work. The confusion was my own. I wish to thank Richard for clearing up my confusion as well. I am looking forward to showing more of Williams works here on Modeler Magic!

1:24 Ralph McQuarrie Concpet A-Wing built by Richard Long

Ralph McQuarrie’s concept designs have become legendary among the fans of this art form Professional artist Richard Long has utilized Mr. McQuarrie’s designs again and again, turning them into real world models… like this one! The A-Wing was only seen in Return of the Jedi. I must admit… I like the McQuarrie shape better than the A-Wing that ILM made for the film. It is a much larger fighter… and looks very capable! Richard did his usual fantastic flare of creation with this piece… and now…. only two will exist! One in the Collection of Clay Brown, and another in the collection of Hector Rosales.
