This piece was originally shown here on Modelers Miniatures & Magic back on December 1, 2009 and now updated to today’s showing standard! Built from the TimeSlip Creations kit that he mastered for them (years before the Moebius Kit was brought to market in the same scale), artist Scott Spicer did fantastic work for his client with this build.

“The client requested a ‘dirty’ version of the Galactica, more so than what has been done to build ups of the kit. The filming model showed evidence of staining and variations in color, so I took that as inspiration for my weathering. I wanted to make my version unique and as artistic as possible.

I started with spray bomb primer and then a coating of a custom mixed light gray to replicate the filming model’s base color...

This is the “Spicer Galactica”. Beautifully patterned by Scott Spicer, I finished this quite a few years ago, but just got around to doing some decent photos of it. This model is only 17″ long but looks so much bigger when photographed correctly, and painted with substantial shadowing. The red lines were painted by hand and the tiny windows were painted using fluorescent yellow. The model is solid resin, so it is impossible to light – unfortunately. In all, a very satisfying finish!

Back in October of 2009 I received a wonderful package in the mail to photograph… the fantastic 15 inch Mon Calamari Cruiser that Scott Spicer (SRS Prototyping) created and built from the kit he then offered. It is surely missed today. He asked me to take these photos before sending it back to him, and let me say that it was a pleasure to photograph this piece with all of it’s detail! They were first shown here on Modeler Magic back on October 28, 2009. Admittedly, at the time I was having issue in Depth of Field with the Cannon Rebel Xti camera I used while taking the length shots (front to back), making some of the model look blurry. My apology to Scott for that. It was a bit frustrating at the time as I finally figured out what was happening after I sent it back to Scott...

Shown on Modeler Magic originally back on February 9, 2009, I thought this piece deserved a refresh for current viewers to appreciate. Artist Alfred Wong built this using the amazing kit from SRS-Prototyping (Scott Spicer). Beautiful work. This brings me back to 1983 again. I would like to see this model done around 6 feet long, or even offered as a 36 inch kit! If I remember, this SRS kit is around 15 to 18 inches in length.

This SSD commission piece took almost two years to complete. The model is two feet in length and completely built from scratch. The model is mounted from the side instead of the typical ‘up the center’ way. The base is also custom made with the operating switches on the back side. Two Madman ‘Big Ass’ starship lighting kits were used to light the model, including hundreds of fiber optic strands. The hull was created using .062 styrene sheet stock & styrene tubing for the engines. The city scapes are all hand cut styrene strips, hand layered and assembled to allow for the fiber optic strands, with the addition of small kit parts sprinkled throughout.
Various sections of the model can be removed to access the boards, LED’s and fiber optics if the model needs servicing...

Commissioned model of the U.S.S. Nimitz Battle Frigate, a variation of the Chandley class starship. The model has been built in 1:1000 scale and has been completed to represent a long and battle-weary patrol. The Nimitz is a companion build to the U.S.S. Ripley.
