1:24 (Studio Scale) X-Wing Kit
Years ago, after Industrial Light and Magic moved from it’s Southern California location, they left behind boxes that were to be gone through. Famed artist John Eaves found in one of those boxes the pieces of one of the actual screen used PYRO X-Wing models that was blown up as a special effect for 1977’s Star Wars. Slightly different than the HERO models used, this became the ONLY model not in the Lucasfilm Archives which was mastered back to it’s former glory by John Eaves for ICONS… a new Replica company. They cast and sold many to collectors all over the world. Eventually ICONS went out of business, leaving a huge calling for a studio kit to be made. However, while they were in the beginnings of their business, and had license, ICONS gave George Lucas the first artist proof…which he displayed in his office for a few years. Over this time, after ICONS went out of business, George’s artist proof began to sag in the wings. George spoke with an artist he and Spielberg had worked with in the past named Greg Aronowitz while discussing another project. The subject came up that the ICONs X-Wing in his office had sagging wings and George asked him if he could fix it. He agreed….. and years passed. One day, while working with his friend Scott Alexander (Captain Cardboard and Atomic City Models owner), Scott saw that X-Wing and asked Greg about it. Greg stated what happened and told Scott he really didn’t have time to fix it for George. Scott then offered to take a look at it for him, taking it back to his shop. Scott decided it would be better to simply make an entirely new X-Wing taken from the measurements of George’s ICONS artist proof……which he did…. and thus came the Captain Cardboard Studio X-Wing Kit that you see here today. In other words… it has direct lineage to the original PYRO X-Wings used in 1977’s Star Wars. It is the ONLY offered X-Wing kit that does.
