Matt Craig’s 38 Inch Korbanth Super Star Destroyer

I have the great pleasure of introducing another fantastic artist… from Australia… artist Matt Craig! Showing his first piece today, he has decided to show the 38 inch Super Star Destroyer that he built from the KORBANTH Kit. It’s kit seller, Randy Johnson stated to Matt that it is one of the best he has seen built to date! It certainly is a fantastic site to behold!

This is what artist Matt Craig has to tell of his creation….

Major modifications were:

  • Thinning the brim trenches to bring the upper and lower hulls closer together
  • Completely rebuilding the six ‘steering’ engines (3 per side)
  • Scratch building a new bridge structure using a micro machines Star Destroyer bridge as a base and adding styrene card, photo-etch and Swarovski crystals (sensor domes)
  • Re-aligning all the super-structure so the underside and top are the same level when viewed from the side (as per the filming model)
  • Adding numerous small detail parts all over the hull using styrene card and model ship parts
  • Painting consisted of a black undercoat and various grey shades for the topcoats with dry-brushing over the entire hull in lighter shades – I opted for the grey (Gray is spelled Grey in OZ) instead of the grey/blue as the filming model is actually light grey and I think it looks better.
