Utilizing the famed 37.5 inch Randy Cooper Star Destroyer kits, artist Marc is in the process of soon completing TWO of these beasts for display at Modeler Magic. The first is obviously what Randy designed the kit afterโฆ the Avenger from Empire Strikes Back. The second is one is a design I have been wanting since it crawled over my head in 1977โฆ. the Devastator from the original Star Wars.. or later known as Episode IV โ A New Hope! Marc is doing beautiful work on both the builds, but it is Devastator that truly has my interest of them both. As stated before, this Cooper kit was designed to look like Avenger in itโs high detailโฆ something Devastator never had partially due to itโs size being around three feet long, while Avenger was eight feet long. In past years, with another fine artist, I had commissioned an 8 foot version of this model. It was coming right along, when apparently life had something different in mind for the artistโฆ and thus me as that project never came through, sadly ending up being a loss. When moving projects to Marc Elkins for Modeler Magic, and knowing Marc had built a beautiful 6 foot replica of Avenger (now owned by the Michael Plante Collection), it became obvious that for immediate results, the Randy Cooper kits were the way to go! And it would keep Devastator to the size it was originally designed of approximately 3 feet long! No worries my kindred spirited Studio Scale junkiesโฆ because even as we have Avenger being done with the Cooper kit hereโฆ I have already commissioned Marc for the full eight footer that will be started most likely sometime in 2014. We will not disappoint our viewers with less size that studio scale if we can help it! Now, getting back to Devastatorโฆ. since Randy had placed so much detail into this kit, we decided to leave much of it aloneโฆ. so it will be an โidealizedโ version of Devastator for sure, but will be recognizable in every โDevastatorโ wayโฆ.. meaning all the major design components of Devastator will be accounted for in this build. Of note.. after collector Michael Plante purchased Marcโs six foot Avenger replica, he was so impressed with what he saw Marc doing with the three foot Devastator that he immediately commissioned Marc for a second three foot replica of that beast, again utilizing the Cooper kit as itโs base form. That statedโฆ Marc has his work cut out for him now with Plante and Kuhn Global/Modeler Magic builds for years to come! LOLโฆ. thank you Marc for dealing with usโฆ. picky collectors. LOL. Anyway, notice the specific guns Marc scratch built for Devastator that match the original model as best as possible. Then view the rear neck areaโฆ amazing! Not to mention the thousands of windows Marc drilled (straight as a arrow, mind you) to match the many, many windows on Avengerโฆsomething new for Devastator. There is so much to showโฆ and too many photos, so I will show what I think you should see here today of Marcโs efforts. Keep in mind some of these photos were taken with a camera on a phone. All future updates will be done with a much better camera. Enjoy! And thank you again Marc for your continued amazing work! I also wish to thank Randy Cooper for coming out with such a fantastic, large kit for us all!
