STAR WARS DEAGOSTINI BUILD YOUR OWN X-WING
BY SHIGEKI “JPRESS” KANO
I started “DeAgostini build your own X-WING” in 2020. I originally planned to simply assemble it, but since I had time to wait for parts replacement, I decided to improve the paint and shape.
I looked up the paint and weathering from screenshots and ILM documentation.

The display pedestal is a replica of ICON’s replica pedestal that I modified.
Cockpit block and pilot are made by FALCON3DPARTS.
Major fixes are listed below.
1. Multicolor R2-D2 lights
I inserted a colored transparent bobbin into the dome.
2. Torpedo launcher forward shift
I shifted forward the position of the torpedo launcher on the provided panel. Because it was different from the specification of “RED5”.
3. Re-positioned a pair of small pipes at the base of the laser cannon
I moved to the center because the position of the pipe at the base of the laser cannon in the upper left wing is lowered.
I also adjusted the angle of the turret connection
The same is true for the lower right wing, which is a clone of the upper left wing.
4. Change the protrusion position of the engine housing
I modified it because the position of the protrusion on the upper left engine housing is different
This is a part that has a strong relationship with weathering, so I can’t overlook it.
5. Canopy hinge omission
I found that the full size model has a relatively small hinge, but the studio model has no hinge panel line, so I realized the hinge function with a magnet instead of a hard hinge.
A spring is housed inside the cylinder.
Since the canopy opening and closing cylinder was placed backward for compatibility with the hinge, I shifted its placement forward.
6. Cover expansion on the left and right sides of the fuselage
I extended the lower part of the cover in front of the wing root so that it was symmetrical in the vertical direction.
7. wing front edge chamfer
I did the chamfering because from the pictures of the RED5 wreckage, the outside corners of the wing front edge were chamfered.
I haven’t seen any consideration of this in past productions or posts I’ve seen.
