Artist Ralph McQaurrie will always be remembered for his brilliant and imaginative work in the film and art industry. A many of his designs were used for popular science fiction films… of which this one made it into the Star Wars universe. If real, this concept A-Wing is much larger than the actual A-Wing that we saw in Return of the Jedi. When artist Richard Long patterned a kit of it, I wanted one greatly. I eventually was able to get this kit direct from Richard Long, and even arrange the pattern sale to KORBANTH, who may begin selling it soon. That stated… this model was masterfully built up by artist Dan Grumeretz for our display here. Dan took time to really follow what McQuarrie had painted. In recent years, the series Star Wars Rebels began using this design, albeit slightly different, against the growing Imperial menace. Needless to say, even though that show is amazing, I wanted this to be a tribute to Ralph McQuarrie, and as such… Dan made it so. He slightly modified this model in panel lines, and even shape. The front nose in the paintings is not straight, but V-shaped. Even the new toy missed that one. I am very pleased with Dan’s work on this. I believe Ralph would have liked this.
