Here is my Probe Droid. I saw this kit from Dreams Scale Model here on Modeler Magic (Click HERE to View The KIT ALERT!) and I knew I had to have it.
When the model arrived, I inspected the castings and they were all clean, which is rare these days. Most of the resin kits I buy from the states are usually pretty bad with castings from RTVs dating 10+ years, but this kit from Spain’s Sergio Gutierrez looked professional and in fact, had a link to a professional casting service instead of someone casting garbage parts in their back year during a heat wave.
The top “head” and body are rotocasted so they are essentially hollow. It makes the model lighter which is a good thing, but it also makes it more difficult if u want to drill into a solid chunk to add additional details such as making the head rotatable.
The “eyes” on the body are molded in. It may have been better to made a few of the eyes a separate piece so it’s easier to paint, or clear pieces so people who want to light it up can.
The kit was an excellent kit and I decided not to follow canon and had in mind to add addition details on the underside to give it a more menacing and sinister feel. I added additional antenna like needles as well as odds and ends details to give it a probot on steroids looking for the rebels.
Overall, I highly recommend the kit and unlike many of the kit builders I’ve dealt with in the states where you pay for a kit and not hear from them for a year, if at all, Sergio kept me abreast of when the model will be cast and when it will be shipped.
