I have been designing Lego science fiction models for about 12 years, mostly in Lego Digital Designer, but in the last two years I have been building real brick models. Most of it is Star Trek with a smattering of other themes.
Today I am showing my largest model to date, the Moonbus from 2001: A Space Odyssey. I first designed it in 2016 and finally built it this year. The model is about 17″ long with over 1400 pieces (53 studs long, 24 studs wide). The scale is a bit bigger than Minifig scale, maybe 1:35 (normally I stay strictly to 1:39, so 1 stud=1 foot). The roof lifts off in two sections and the ramp stows neatly in the floor.
