After many years of trying to get into the model making business with production companies in Australia which was extremely hard with a waiting list of 10 years and more. I decided to once again give a different type of model making a go.
In 1993 I decided to build a series of 12th scale Australian Victorian Houses. Not knowing what was available on the commercial market at the time I just jumped in head first and built the frames then decorated them to what I liked. With stuff I had found in hobby shops and doll house suppliers, I modified lots of them to suit the Australian theme and then with most of the ornate detail there was nothing I could use so I put my hand skills to the test and created many ceiling roses. architraves, skirting boards, doors, windows, wall vents, corbels and so on. I made a huge amount of detailed features and cast them in plaster, timber, resin and whatever medium I could find that was strong and durable..
All the names are significant to my mother’s side of the family.
TALUNGA Was the first to be built
RIVINGTON the second
NETHERBY the third
BARNDEN HALL never got finished due to me moving around too much so I gave it away to a friend who loved everything miniature.
I sold Rivington in 2001
In 1999 I finally got into a production company in Melbourne. All my dreams came true. A week in I twisted my ankle severely and wasn’t able to walk for months. I lost that job.
That was a lifetime ago and now the little plastic brick takes up my spare time as I create all my treasures from the BATTLESTAR UNIVERSE and some from other sci fi.
That is it from the archives of my scratchy vault. LOL.
Take care and thank you once again.
