2001 A Space Odyssey was one of those films that made history. It was so different from anything else of that time period, and the effects were done so fantastically that they were very realistic! And so is this amazing scratch build by artist Warren Zoell. I know this piece well from my associations with Scott Alexander, and can see that Warren’s attention to detail is top notch. The detail around the front view port alone takes so much effort that once really needs to know what they are doing. This is a beautiful piece!
This is what artist Warren Zoell has to say of this piece…
Here are some images of my scratch built 1/8 scale Grumman (that’s what it says in the lore) E.V.A. Pod from 2001 A Space Odyssey. I stumbled across the sphere for this model amongst a pile of garbage on the 4th floor of the H.V.Shaw building in downtown Edmonton. So what do I see out of the corner of my eye? An 11 inch mirror ball probably back from those disco days when the clothing was terrible and the music was even worse, much worse. Measuring around a sphere can be difficult and was quite a learning experience.
