Planet of the Apes “Sinking Icarus” by Thomas Militello

Plate of the Apes is one of my all time favorite films. Thomas captured the moment of no for the crew of the U.S. Space Capsule… later named the ICARUS by industry artist Jim Key. I can hear Charlton Heston’s character “Taylor” as he watches the craft sink under water (of Lake Powell)…. “Going…… going…. gone.” A fantastic moment is film history captured by Thomas Militello.

~2 Foot POTA ICARUS Scratch Built by Stuart Williamson for Peter Noble

This is old news to some of you, however, in viewing this build again on the Professional Modeling Board Resin Illuminati, I simply had to show it on Modeler’s Miniatures and Magic as well. It is beautiful craftsmanship by professional modeler Stuart Williamson for the collection of well known artist Peter Noble. Made from an assortment of pieces, including plywood and empty film containers, this came out supremely detailed and accurate. The interior is even said to have a miniature of Stuart himself in the top right stasis chamber on the right when looking through the rear toward the front. A very impressive build of one of my favorite ship designs from the original Planet of the Apes, starring Charlton Heston and Roddy McDowall.
