What a beautiful modified build by artist Alfred Wong. Fantastic!
This is the new Revell lvl 2 X-Wing kit. The surface detail is surprisingly sharp, where it falls short is in the detail parts like the cockpit. It’s stated to be 1/50th but the difference in length between 1/50 and 1/48 for this model is only 0.4″, plenty close enough for a fictional ship.
The fuselage is actually almost the exact same length as the 1/48 Fine Molds OT X-Wing and the wings are exactly the same span.
I have an extra Fine Molds kit that I use for parts, so I decided to take the cockpit tub and the instrument panel cover from it and adapt it for the Revell kit. With just a little bit of trimming the parts fitted just fine. I added more detailing with scrap plastic and stuff from the spares box. Now obviously I’m just making this up since I have no idea how “accurate” the original Revell cockpit was, but frankly I don’t really care, this is a fictional ship and I just don’t get my panties up in a knot over this stuff. As long as it looks cool it’s all good. I also deepened the torpedo launchers on the lower fuselage sides, Used one of my female Rebel pilot figures, made new leading and trailing edge details and opened and detailed the engine recesses I re-worked cannon barrels with aluminum and styrene tubing. The kit’s barrels are actually pretty good, but I’m just fearful they’d get broken so I made the change.
I took a few shots alongside the Fine Molds T-65 version.
