I received a phone call last week from fellow collector, and friend Hector Rosales. He had just purchased an original series screen used Cylon Helmet from the London Prop Store! This piece is beautiful and I thank Hector for allowing us to show it here on Modeler Magic.
Here is what the London Prop Store had to tell of this piece…
An original Cylon helmet used the 1978 groundbreaking sci-fi series Battlestar Galactica. The alien cyborg race featured heavily throughout the series as mortal enemies to the last surviving member of the Human Race, led by the Human betrayer Baltar, and were easily recognized by these imposing metallic silver helmets.
The helmet is made from vac formed plastic that was made in two halves and the joins were covered with a identically silver tape. The piece features smoothly curving angles which flow up into a crest that runs from the forehead all the way down to the back, and a pair of prominent ‘cheekbones’. The eye slit is recessed deeply into the helmet, and incredibly narrow and overshadowed with no chance to see in from outside, and would have originally featured the scanning red lights inside emphasized by a painted black section immediately below.
The mouthpiece is detailed to look much like a vent and made from cast metal painted, which has been painted black and attached separately. This rare piece from the cult classic series is in excellent condition for its age, with only a couple of small scuffs and scrapes around the face, and measures 31cm (12”) tall.
