Artist Garry King never… ever ceases to amaze me with his art work! This fantastic LEGO build of the Battlestar Valkyrie is simply fantastic. He chose today to release it as this Battlestar design will be seen in the new Web Series Blood and Chrome as well as it was seen in Razor! I cannot state enough about the greatness and skills required to build such a piece. Garry will be building a LEGO replica of the Ancient Battlestar for the Web Series 13 as well!
A very big welcome to all who are viewing this new Battlestar
I introduce “The Battlestar Valkyrie”.
Adama’s previous command before being assigned to the World’s famous Battlestar Galactica.
This is my rendition of the Valkyrie from all the remarkable images from the net and what I could partly extrapolate from the movie “The Plan”. I guess if I had a blueray player and dvd’s I could have seen more detail.
I like the look of the Valkyrie, it is very Gothic styled
16 small dual mounted turrets,
35 heavy dual turrets capable of firing missiles,
Unknown number of point defence guns,
at least 6 ship-to-ship missiles silos.. that is what it is said to have …..
This is all Lego from stem to stern. When I thought to build this one it was going to be much smaller than it is. Spending a lot of time over a 5 month period ( did not do a time count) and many constructions and deconstructions while the build continued, To strengthen its structure I added an 8 stud wide x 6 plates high and 2.4meters long strap down the middle of the ship to act as it’s back bone.
The body is very unique as there are many angles which allowed for more detail and the engines were a real challenge. I had 4 attempts to get them to look so nice.
The pods are attached to each other through the body to assist in strengthening and preventing them sagging too much
Please enjoy
Getting to the big question how big is this model
Dimensions
3100 mm Long X 1100 mm wide X 380mm high.
122 inches long X 43.3 inches wide X 14.9 inches high
Pod size / landing bays
1320mm long X 235mm wide X 145mm high
51 inches long X 9.25 inches wide X 5.7 inches high.
Element count 42,341
Weight is a staggering 50.3kg
Or 110.9 pounds
I had to construct a rolling platform to move it into the garage as the house was too small to take photos. Placing the model on a well padded 1200mm x 2400mm board, tilted on it’s edge to get through the doors down the stairs across the grounds to the garage.
It took two to do the moving. I also constructed a jig to lift the ship up to place it on the custom built stand. 3 days of photographing the top side, back on the hoist to shoot the under belly unfortunately the straps were in the way so I decided to flip the ship over. BAD MOVE!!!!!!!! It was not strong enough to hold together with all the creaks and gowns over the past 3 days, a few seconds later it was all over the garage floor. That made the decision easy to keep or not to keep.
I could go on and on and on about this build but I won’t.
Please enjoy the images. Please also take a few moments to rate it under the first image..
Many thanks to all.
THE TOASTERS NOW HAVE TO MAKE A COME BACK………
