This is my 47″ (total length) Orion III from 2001: A Space odyssey. It is the model I finished a pattern for Scott Alexander. It is also cast by him. I tried to make this model as canon to the filming miniature as possible. Airbrushing shades were created by ‘misting’ the paint in most areas, or varying the amount of thinner in the paint mixture – usually from 50% to 80%. I only added a subtle artificial shadow.
Three of the photos have been done to look similar to the lighting test shots in the Fred I. Ordway III collection. One can see the actual test shots on pages 16 & 17 of my book 2001 The Lost Science part 1 . Camera was set with a manual aperture to allow as much light as possible on a slow shutter. This allows complete focus. Background is a matte black cloth.
