Dear Mr. Makkreel,
My name is Ariel O’Connor and I am part of the conservation team for the Enterprise model. Please excuse my delay in responding to your message, and thank you for writing to us.
I’m quite interested in any original photos or film you have that show the Enterprise model! For the past few months, I’ve been studying and collecting original primary source material scans, and using them to track changes to the model during filming. If you have any digital scans you would be willing to share with us for research purposes, I would be most grateful. We are keeping all of the material with the owner’s copyright information, and we wouldn’t use it for any external purpose without contacting you first.
In particular, we still need anything that shows color information for the weathering paint on the secondary hull and nacelles, or the inboard side of the starboard nacelle.
Regarding the pieces removed for restoration – we aren’t removing anything that is original to the ship. We are treating this as a conservation treatment, which involves identifying, documenting, stabilizing, and cleaning all material that is original. The later restoration material and parts that are identified as incorrect, we are restoring to reflect the model as it was seen at the very end of filming, right before being sent to the Smithsonian. Any later restoration material we remove from the ship will be catalogued and saved in storage as part of the history of the model.
