Artist David Shaw returns with this fantastic study model of the Galileo Shuttlecraft from the Star Trek original series! The details on this model truly bring me back to watching Star Trek when I was a kid….. I love it!
This is my one-half studio scale study build of the Galileo shuttlecraft. This is a study of the original filming miniature based on the references I had on hand (which I used to draw up some quick-n-dirty plans). It’s about 11 inches long, which I believe is about the same size that the eventual Round 2 kit will be, but this is exclusively based on the filming model… not the large scale mockup (which Round 2 is mainly using as a reference for their exterior).
I hadn’t spent much time studying the Galileo (other than the interior back in 2004), so this is my first attempt at this subject (both drawing/documenting and building)… though I did build the old AMT kit way back in the 1970s. The model is scratch built and the graphics are all hand drawn (meaning no pre-existing fonts, like I did on the Phase II Enterprise). But for a first try, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.
Amazingly this model only took three months to complete and it wasn’t even a high priority project.
Thanks,
David
