KORBANTH 1/24 “Black” T-70 X-Wing by Dan Grumeretz with Review by Kurt Kuhn

First I would like to thank artist Dan Grumeretz for his excellent work on this 1/24 T-70 X-Wing (Poe Dameron’s “Black” version). When The Force Awakens was released a few years ago, the anticipation of this new X-Wing design was great! I must admit to being quite excited myself. At that time, artist Richard Long began patterning the 1/24 T-70 X-Wing. He did a magnificent job, (as is his usual work).  That stated, the patterns were not quite complete when he sent them to me just after The Last Jedi was released. I gave them to Kit Maker Randy Johnson (of KORBANTH) to complete and make a kit for everyone. Randy gave the patterns to artist Mark Worley to complete and enhance, which he did so beautifully, and it has become this fantastic kit you see here today…...

Bobby Ringuet’s TEST Composite Using the Kuhn Global Star Destroyer Devastator

French artist Bobby Ringuet contacted me months ago now to ask a few questions of the Star Destroyer. He had, in fact, utilized the Blue Screen Photos of the Star Destroyer Devastator (that Marc Elkins built for the collection) as a test for a short film he is making. Very nice indeed!

“I’m working on my new short film with my cameraman and we’re not sure for the size of our spaceship model. I saw your website and I used your pictures for tests in After Effects and Fusion.”

KROPSERKEL McQuarrie General Vader Helmet / A Light Re-Vamp by Dan Grumeretz

Everyone knows Kropserkel’s great offerings with their Cylon Armor…. and this is just as fantastic! A few months ago the owner of Kropserkel sent me the General Vader Concept Helmet he released years ago! This helmet is GREAT, and if you are wanting one of the original designs, of which there were a few drawn by Ralph McQuarrie…. this helmet gives you the best of those together! I highly recommend it! Here us KROPERSERKEL’S Contact email… info@kropserkel.com

That stated, it is so close to the version I want to display here that Dan Grumeretz began some modification to better match the specific McQuarrie version seen below…

“… The Harder They Fall!” – Composite by Kurt Kuhn (Kuhn Global)

I was fixing the broken feature image links, and I thought I would bump this one from 2013.

****

Wow… it has been quite a while since I did one of these, and this is a piece I had promised I would do after the Mega AT-AT was built, but found little time to do so. However… I was restless the other night and finally made it happen! I apologize if it is noticed to be rushed…… after all… in my best typed Yoda…. human I am!

Utilizing the Blue Screen photos of  The Mega AT-AT and the 1:22 Snowspeeder (both of which were built by artist Marc Elkins for our Modeler Magic Display), then using a 720P screen capture or three from The Empire Strikes Back, I was able to make this new scene happen!

Finding the right screen capture was truly needed for this to come off looking as if it truly were a scen...

TWO Studio Scale T-47 Snowspeeder’s – WIP by Dan Grumeretz

These two beasts are huge in their studio scale size! They were actually requested to be at last weeks Star Wars Celebration, but were not far enough along to display. That stated… starting life as patterns by Nick Sainton Clark, then moved to Mike Salzo, these kits are now offered by NICE-N Model Designs. Dan Grumeretz, (being the original pilot sculptor of the kit), is currently customizing both of these for the Kuhn Global/Modeler Magic Collection to be exactly like the studio models we viewed, but with a twist…. the pilots and gunners are being newly sculpted by Dan to look like the actors who were shown in the life sized props. These being Rogue Leader (Luke and Dak), and Rogue 3 (Wedge and Janson). You can see how Dan made the clear helmet visors for these pieces...

Studio Scale Cloud Car by Dan Grumeretz

Artist Dan Grumeretz came through for the collection once again! This studio scale Cloud Car came to us partially built by artist Mike Salzo. Taking it to the finish line, Dan added the tiny rivet dimples, enlarged the gun ports, and made new canopy’s and rear fins… not to mention improving upon the pilot figures that he created for this kit initially years ago… which started life as the Tobias Rubom pattern. Dan did a great job capturing the essence of the CC we viewed in ESB.. with the varying colored panels. Excellent!
